Kyiv Online: Ukrainian for Russian Learners

Group Custom Program

Ukrainian for Russian Learners is a two-week introductory course aimed at those who have studied Russian the equivalent of two years or more. It is a great opportunity for you to familiarize yourself with another Slavic language and boost your overall understanding and cultural integration should you choose to study in or otherwise visit Ukraine.

If you can easily read the course description below, your Russian should be sufficient for undertaking this short course. This course will be taught in Russia and will serve to reinforce your Russian language comprehension as well.

The course is 10 hours of study, half synchronous, half asynchronous. Class size is limited to 6. More sessions will be added based on demand.

Synchronous lessons of 5 hours are run every other day during the two-week period. Timing is approximately 17:30-18:30 and/or 21:00-22:00 Kyiv time. We will try to consider preferences of those enrolled in determining the final schedule.

Asynchronous hours will reinforce face-to-face time with vocabulary building, grammar exercises, texts to read, short videos, and short tests.

Please plan to work from a laptop (as opposed to smartphone, or even iPad). Headphones and mic are a great help as well if you have them, so as to allow for better sound. We will be using Adobe Connect platform.

We have just opened 2020 Summer Online Session 2 (13 July 2020 - 24 July 2020) for the same introductory level (L1). Simply select this option here when applying. We have just added a Level 2 course for those who completed the first level. Simply select 2020 Summer Online (L2) to apply.

Application notes:

1. We are still developing an application "track" for short programs like this. In the current application format, please ignore requests for a transcript or references. Do let us know what your level of Russian is, however, as this course is designed for Russian learners, who have had at least 2 years of study or the equivalent. Also ignore some automated notes that are associated with this application format. We are using it while we figure out best way to modify it for this type of short course.

2. For short/online courses such as this, it is not necessary to pay an application fee. This will also be fixed in a new application. For now simply submit the application without paying the application fee.
