  • Economic Development in the Russian Far East

    Study Abroad

    Although a neighbor to the highly successful Pacific Asian nations of Japan, South Korea, and China, Russia's Far East has always lagged in terms of economic development because of historical, geographic, and policy challenges. Today, however, there are several ambitious projects focused on developing this massive and resource-rich Russian region. This program will critically analyze and explore first-hand many of these projects, including the free port, special economic zones, and infrastructure initiatives in both their investment attractiveness and socio-political value.

  • Georgian Foodways

    Study Abroad

    Spend two weeks in an interdisciplinary exploration of Georgian national identity and history through its national cuisine. Using a variety of critical academic approaches, explore issues like climate change, state agricultural policy, food security, the place of food in social justice and ethnic identity, and how food and identity can help drive tourism development. This course is for anyone who wants to understand how truly important food is to the human experience.

  • Policy and Conflict in the Post-Soviet Space

    Study Abroad

    While based in Kyiv, Ukraine, you will travel to Moldova, Georgia, Armenia, and Russia to discuss the conflicts in all these states, both past and present, with local students, teachers, and experts. Learning of the historical background and the interests of groups involved, including foreign interests, you will critically consider the governance problems that face modern multiethnic states.   • Russian as a Second Language - Irkutsk

    Study Abroad

    Irkutsk provides an exceptionally intensive and immersive experience. RSL study is combined with up to three electives or an environmental internship, giving you the opportunity to use your Russian skills in more practical settings and build vocabulary. Homestays are available, active, and encouraged. In Irkutsk, English is less prevalent than in major cities and the slower pace of life means that strong, local, Russian-speaking connections can be made through SRAS-supported peer tutoring and through university sports groups and interest clubs.

    In Kyiv, you'll find an exceptionally strong array of internships as well as our most inclusive pricing. Kyiv is currently the focus of strong international attention. Many businesses, NGOs, museums, and media organizations there are open to foreign interns. In Kyiv, you are provided with an included homestay, two meals a day, and even a subway transport card, meaning that your expenses once abroad kept to a minimum. Further, semester terms in Kyiv are slightly shorter, so program costs are lower as well.
